Anya and Karthik's Playful Debate
Anya: "Karthik, leave that book and come play langdi. Your legs will forget how to run."
Karthik: "Just one more page. The dragon is sneaking into the school library."
Anya: "Even in the park you sit with a book. On the swing, on the slide, on the bench… so bookish."
Karthik: "My hands feel empty without a book. Like your plate without chutney."
Anya: "Hey! I don’t bring chutney to weddings. But you took a book yesterday."
Karthik: "The speeches were longer than the queue for gulab jamun. I finished three chapters."
Anya: "While we made a phooljhadi circle. It looked like a glowing rangoli. You missed it."
Karthik: "I heard you all laughing. My stomach felt twisty, like I’d dropped my bookmark."
Anya: "See? When you go all bookish, I feel like you shut a door."
Karthik: "But the stories pull me in. They’re louder than crackers in my head."
Appa: "What’s this meeting on the sofa? Dosas are getting cold."
Anya: "Appa, he’s too bookish. He even walks to the bathroom reading."
Karthik: "Only till the sink! Okay… sometimes till the mirror."
Appa: "Hmm. His nose likes paper, your nose likes sambar. Both noses live in the same house, no?"
Anya: "I just want him in our games sometimes, not only in his book-world."
Karthik: "And I want my stories. I don’t want to choose."
Appa: "Then mix it, like curd rice. Little running, little reading."
Anya: "Okay, bookish boy. Play langdi now, and later you read me the dragon part."
Karthik: "You’ll really listen? No complaining?"
Anya: "Only if the dragon eats at least five laddus."
Karthik: "Deal. This bookish boy will close his book and come jump first."
