Rainy Day Reflections
Anya: "Ugh, it's raining again. Our kite plan is totally ruined."
Kabir: "Yeah, and Amma said no puddle jumping. She just washed my uniform."
Anya: "Now we’re stuck inside with nothing fun to do."
Kabir: "We could watch TV."
Anya: "Power cut, remember? Even the fan has given up."
Kabir: "Then let’s just be bored. I hate this sticky, wet feeling."
Paati: "Children, come to the balcony. The rain is singing today."
Anya: "Singing? It’s just going tap-tap-tap on the grill."
Kabir: "And my socks are getting damp. I don’t like it."
Paati: "Take off the socks then. Feel the cool floor. Smell the air… like wet earth and jasmine."
Anya: "It does smell nice… like the garden after we water it too much."
Kabir: "And the chai smells good. Are those onion pakoras?"
Paati: "Yes, hot-hot pakoras for rainy days. The rain is our guest; we have to welcome it."
Anya: "Welcome the rain? But it spoiled our kite plan."
Kabir: "Yeah, I’m still mad at it."
Paati: "Sometimes plans change. If you hold on to your anger, you miss the new fun waiting."
Anya: "New fun? All I see is water and wet wires."
Paati: "Listen. The auto horns are softer. The street is shiny. That crow is taking a bath in the puddle."
Kabir: "He splashed like you, Anya, in the bathroom yesterday!"
Anya: "Hey! But… okay, that is funny."
Paati: "Here, take these steel tumblers of chai with extra milk. We’ll sit and watch the rain show."
Kabir: "Mmm, the cup is warm. My fingers feel toasty."
Anya: "The pakoras are so crispy! The crunch is louder than the raindrops."
Paati: "See? The rain brought us a different kind of evening."
Kabir: "I guess it’s not all bad. The trees look so green now."
Anya: "And the road looks like a long mirror. My face is wobbling in it."
Kabir: "Your nose looks extra big in the puddle mirror."
Anya: "Rude! But I’m laughing anyway."
Paati: "Your hearts are lighter now. You’ve stopped fighting the rain."
Kabir: "Yeah… I kind of like this rainy balcony picnic."
Anya: "Me too. We wanted kites, but we..."
