The Kite Flying Adventure
Meera: "Ugh, my kite keeps falling. It will never fly."
Arjun: "Mine too. The wind is sleeping today."
Amma: "The wind is shy, not sleeping. Give it a moment."
Meera: "But the sky is so big and empty. It looks like it’s laughing at us."
Arjun: "Everyone else’s kites are up there already. Look at Rani’s bright green one!"
Meera: "And that boy’s dragon kite. It’s like a real dragon. Ours look like sad chapatis."
Amma: "They only look sad because you’re frowning. Try again while the sun is still golden."
Meera: "My hands are sticky with sugar from the jalebi. The string is slipping."
Arjun: "Wipe it on your kurta. That’s what I did."
Meera: "Then Amma will scold me."
Amma: "I won’t scold for jalebi marks on kite-flying day. I’ll only scold if you give up."
Arjun: "Come on, Meera. Let’s run together this time. Fast, like we’re chasing the smell of samosas."
Meera: "I can already smell them. My tummy is flying, but my kite is not."
Amma: "Listen to all the sounds, kanna. The conch from the temple, the aunties talking, the kites flapping. The day is still full."
Arjun: "Okay, we hold the string tight, count to three, and run. One… two…"
Meera: "Wait. What if it just crashes again? It will hurt my heart."
Arjun: "Your heart is strong. It survived that super-spicy pani puri, remember?"
Meera: "That’s true. It was like eating a volcano."
Amma: "Close your eyes for a second and think of the kite already flying high, higher than the terrace."
Meera: "Like it’s touching that tiny moon in the blue?"
Ammahopeful.": "Yes. Feel that picture inside you. That feeling is
Arjun: "Hopeful means we believe it can happen, even if it hasn’t yet… right, Amma?"
Amma: "Right. Now open your eyes and run with that hopeful feeling."
Arjun: "Okay, Meera. This time, let’s be hopeful together. Ready?"
Meera: "Ready. My stomach is flip-flopping, but my feet want to run."
Arjun: "One… two… three… run!"
Meera: "The string is pulling! Arjun, look, look, LOOK!"
Arjun: "It’s up! It’s really up!"
