Power Cut Conversations
Ananya: "Uff, the power cut again! I was just about to beat my high score."
Kabir: "At least you were playing. Dadu and I were watching the cricket match!"
Dadu: "The whole street is dark, beta. Even the shop uncle is sitting outside with a hand fan."
Ananya: "I hate this feeling. I can't fix the wires, I can't switch it back on… I just feel so small."
Kabir: "Like when Ma says, ‘No more screen time,’ and we can't do anything about it?"
Ananya: "No, then I can still argue a little. Now it's like… the whole world decided and forgot to tell us."
Dadu: "Hmm, that's a heavy feeling. Like your hands are tied, even though nothing is tying them."
Kabir: "It's like the lights went off inside my tummy also."
Ananya: "Yeah. Total powerlessness. We just have to sit and wait."
Kabir: "But waiting is boring. It's so hot. The fan is just hanging like a lazy bat."
Dadu: "We may not control the power, but we can choose what to do in the dark."
Ananya: "Choose what? Sweat quietly?"
Kabir: "Or complain loudly. I’m good at that."
Dadu: "We have candles, right? And your mother made mango kulfi in the freezer."
Kabir: "But the freezer needs power, Dadu!"
Dadu: "Exactly. So what do clever children do before it melts?"
Ananya: "Eat it! I'll get the kulfi sticks before they turn into mango juice."
Kabir: "I'll get the candles. Can we put them in steel glasses like Nani does for Diwali?"
Dadu: "Of course. Carefully. No superheroes near the flame."
Ananya: "Look, the walls look orange now. It’s like our own tiny campfire."
Kabir: "And the ceiling fan's shadow looks like a monster. A very tired monster.". A very tired monster."
Dadu: "Shall we tell stories till the power comes back? Ghost stories or funny ones?" till the power comes back? Ghost stories or funny ones?"
Kabir: "Ghost stories! But not too scary. My legs already feel like jelly."
Ananya: "I’ll start. Once there was a ghost who was scared of the dark because of a big power cut…"
Kabir: "How can a ghost be scared of the dark?"
Ananya: "See, even ghosts can feel powerlessness sometimes."
Dadu: "And sometimes, in that same powerlessness, people find new power."
Kabir: "Like turning a boring power cut into a kulfi-and-candle party?"
Ananya: "Yeah. We still can't..."
