Contributing to Ganesh Chaturthi
Meera: "Arjun, why are you just sitting there? We have to decorate for Ganesh Chaturthi!"
Arjun: "Everyone’s already doing something. Amma’s making modaks, Paati’s doing rangoli, you’re hanging flowers. There’s nothing left for me."
Meera: "You can help with the flowers. Pass me that marigold string."
Arjun: "You’re faster. I’ll just mess it up."
Amma: "Hmm, the mandap looks quiet. Our Ganesha needs more color, no?"
Meera: "See, Amma wants more! Arjun, help me. At least hold the stool."
Arjun: "Holding a stool is boring. It doesn’t really… do anything."
Amma: "When I make modaks, who peels the cardamom pods for me?"
Arjun: "Me. My fingers smell like cardamom for hours."
Amma: "And do my modaks taste the same without your cardamom?"
Arjun: "No… they taste plain."
Meera: "So your tiny fingers secretly help the whole sweet box."
Arjun: "But that’s just one small thing."
Amma: "Small things also contribute, kanna. They join together to make something big and beautiful."
Meera: "Like each flower in this garland. One alone is nice, but all together—wah!"
Arjun: "So if I tie these loose flowers onto the string, I’m… contributing?"
Amma: "Exactly. Your hands will contribute to Ganesha’s garland."
Meera: "And your nose will contribute by sniffing all the modaks later."
Arjun: "Hey! My stomach will contribute by eating them."
Meera: "Okay, contributor, help me lift this garland to the hook."
Arjun: "Careful… there! It looks fuller now."
Amma: "See how your bit of effort changed the whole mandap?"
Arjun: "Yeah. It looked empty before. Now it looks like Ganesha is at a real party."
Meera: "You contributed color. I contributed knots. Amma contributed sweets."
Arjun: "And together we contributed a whole festival."
